Three area agencies are asking for help keep our older community members warm during the cold winter months. The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Richland County Children Services and We ACT are partnering to collect socks for the annual Socks for Seniors drive.

Socks will be donated to nursing facilities in Richland County.

Through December 14, donations of new socks – long, short, colorful, and fuzzy- will be collected.

Current collection sites include the Area Agency on Aging (2131 Park Ave. West) and Richland County Children Services (731 Scholl Road). Socks can be dropped off during normal business hours Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM.

If your business or organization would like to be a collection site please contact Luisa Singletary, Communications Coordinator, from the Area Agency on Aging at 419-524-4144.

Singletary says the goal this year is to collect 2,000 socks.

“Everyone in the community is invited to participate in this wonderful holiday project. You can participate by collecting new adult pairs of socks in your workplace, schools, churches, with your family and friends. Join us in spreading the warmth this holiday season!” Brigitte Coles, Richland County Children Services Community Engagement Specialist, said.

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc., located at 2131 Park Avenue West in Ontario, provides leadership, collaboration, coordination and services to older adults, people with disabilities, their caregivers and resource networks that support individual choice, independence and dignity.

We ACT is a community organization that will respond to community needs when they can, where they can and how they can, with love, peace, respect and understanding.

Richland County Children Services is governed by a board of local residents and has a full-time staff of more than 100 employees whose primary mission is to assist children and families in need.
