Quickly – close your eyes and summon an image that fits the word “inventor.” You might well think of white man in lab coats or eccentric garage tinkerers. Individuals like Thomas Edison or Steve Jobs might come to mind.
An exhibit in March at the Main Library of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library system will be turning that notion on its head this March. ‘Picturing Women Inventors’ is a traveling display of eight posters that explore the inventions of 19 highly accomplished American women.
Astronauts, computer pioneers, and businesswomen join athletes, engineers, and even teenagers in this remarkable group of inventors.
These resources aim to shed light on these hidden figures and broaden the definition of who can be considered an inventor.

You know that VHS tape of your wedding, sitting in a box gathering dust and never played because your VCR broke 15 years ago?
Or that box of 50mm slides from your trip to Colorado in 1982?
Thanks to the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library’s new Memory Lab, those memories can be relived through placing each n a new, more accessible digital format.
Best of all, you are not on your own in negotiating the connections between one electronic device and other. The Library will provide access to trained staff who will, in turn, train you on how to accomplish these tasks during three two-hour sessions on Monday through Thursday at 9 AM, 12 PM, and 3 PM.

Rolling, rolling, rolling – keep those books a’rolling.
Each month, the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library makes its way across the county, bringing the services of the Main Library and branches to places a bit more remote.
The Bookmobile is, in fact, just that – a branch on wheels. Not only will you find books to peruse and borrow, but you can get your library card, place and pick up materials on hold, return books, check our DVDs and video games, and more.
While the current vehicle is relatively new, the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library had a similar service through its “branchmobile,” which operated from the 1950s through 1989. Even earlier, bookmobiles took library services across the area as far back as the 1920s.

Northstar Digital Literacy modules are grouped into three main areas:

With the colder weather roller coaster we have been on over the last several days, and with the business of the holiday season, there’s not always an ideal way to connect with the stories and music of Christmas.
The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library has an answer for you.
The Library’s Bookmobile brings the resources of the MRCPL to your neighborhood or local commercial center. The Bookmobile is truly a “library on the go” that visits schools, neighborhoods, events, and schools with its own revolving collection of library materials for all ages, thereby improving local quality of life.

The Main Library of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library is a rather more colorful place as of late, and will be so until early October.
A photography display called “A Colorful Dream” is the reason. Artist Adrien Broom’s 40 piece photography exhibit is a wonderfully creative journey through the color spectrum. It is on display at the Main Library in downtown Mansfield through October 9.
Over a three year period, Broom, a contemporary fine art and commercial photographer in Brooklyn, created sets that are designed to extract and display the essence of basic colors — red, yellow, blue, etc.. Photographs chronicle the travel of a young girl exploring each color-filled “world.”

What can you do with an eCard from the Library? Almost anything!
The Mansfield/Richland County Public Library issues two types of cards — the traditional kind and the new “eCard.” The latter opens up your computer to basically become an extension of the Library, particularly for all things digital.
Take research databases, for instance. The Library offers access to dozens of resources, from Chilton auto repair manuals to replace the distributor in your ‘66 Mustang to several history and genealogical compendiums to guide you to the parentage of your Great Great Grandfather Frank who emigrated to Richland County in the 1910s.
