Area Agency On Aging Hosting Senior Spring Extravaganza

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. will hold a Senior Spring Extravaganza on May 24 at 10:00 AM at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield. This event, hosted by the Area Agency on Aging, is held in recognition of Older Americans Month, and offers guests entertainment, refreshments, information regarding aging issues, and a chance to win door prizes.

The Area Agency on Aging wants to bring our communities back together again with the theme being Communities of Strength. This year, we want to celebrate our senior citizens with a drive-thru festival. Tickets are free and must be presented the day of the event. Tickets are limited. Local Seniors Get Assistance In Acquiring Fresh Fruit, Vegetables, And Honey

On Wednesday, Ohio District Five Area Agency on Aging announced the availability of the Ohio Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is three counties in north central Ohio — Richland, Knox, and Seneca.

Eligible participants receive ten $5 coupons to use a participating farmers’ markets and roadside stands.

This program helps low-income seniors access locally grown and fresh fruits and vegetables, while also supporting local farmers and those running farmers’ markets. More…

Home Energy Assistance Programs Helps Richland County Residents

The following information was recently shared by Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging.

Do you need help paying for winter heating bills? HEAP may be able to help you. How Do I Apply? Fill out the application – available by calling the Area Agency at 419-524-4144 or 800-860-5799 Monday – Friday 9 AM to 5 PM. Anyone age 18 and older may apply for this assistance. Those 60 & over can get assistance with filling out the application.

All heating types are eligible for energy assistance programs – Electric, Wood, Coal, Natural Gas, Propane and Kerosene. For more information call today.

Area Agency on Aging Announces New Board Members

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. announces the appointment of two new members, Cody Albert and Dr. Rebecca Strickland, to its Board of Trustees. Mr. Albert will be an At-Large Representative from Richland county and will fill the seat left vacant by Sherry Hill of Richland County. Dr. Becky Strickland will serve as an At-Large Representative from Crawford County.

Mr. Albert is the Marketing Manager for OhioHealth Mansfield and Shelby Hospitals where he manages OhioHealth’s local marketing, community relations strategy and connections with non-profit organizations within the area. More…

Senior Farmers’ Market Program Arrives In Richland County

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. is excited to announce the expansion of the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) into Richland County.

This program helps provide low-income seniors with access to locally grown fruits and vegetables.

Participants will receive $50 worth of coupons though the growing season to use at participating farmers’ markets and stands. More…

Huge Success For Socks For Seniors Drive

As we reported in December (story here), several local agencies partnered late last year  to collect socks to be given to nursing home residents. The final count of donations received is now available.

First, let’s look at the goal itself. The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, We ACT and Richland County Children Services, along with other community organizations, set a goal of collecting 4,000 pairs of socks by December 31. The 2018 drive had resulted in the collection of 3,085 pairs of socks so, at the time the 2019 goal was set back in November, 4,000 pairs of socks seemed ambitious but hopefully achievable. More…

Medicare Open Enrollment Begins Next Week; Richland Presentation On November 1

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. announces that the Campus Dining Program recently received recognition from the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) with a 2019 Aging Innovations Award, the highest honor presented by n4a to member agencies.
