Secret No Longer: Downtown Opportunities Unveiled In Tour

8 May , 2022

By 1812Blockhouse

Saturday brought the Secret City Tour sponsored by Downtown Mansfield, Inc., a component part of Saturday and Sunday’s RichHistory Weekend.

As in years past, a sampling of historic buildings in the downtown area were readied for these “sneak peek” tours. Buildings on this month’s edition included 87 West Fourth Street, 111 North Main Street (Second Floor), 137 North Main Street, 100 North Main (Second Floor), 130 North Main (Second Floor), 193 North Main, and 25 North Park.

The aim of the event is not only to provide an opportunity for Mansfielders and others to experience local history, but to demonstrate the potential of these spaces as redevelopment opportunities – the kinds of opportunities that can be fueled with recent downtown living grant funding provided by local civic leaders.

Plant Love In Downtown Mansfield

2 Mar , 2022

By Downtown Mansfield, Inc.

For over 13 years, a community of donors and volunteers have joined The City of Mansfield and Downtown Mansfield, Inc. to beautify downtown. Each year, we strive to make the community even more beautiful through a concentrated effort including the planting of over 1000 flowers throughout the downtown. We have received some national recognition for the efforts and have heard from many in the community who enjoy the floral displays all summer.

We could not do this work without your support! To achieve our beautification goals for 2022, we are launching our annual fundraising effort. The PlantLove campaign will seek to fund downtown beautification annually in lieu of project by project requests. This funding covers projects from April to December and includes regular cleanups, planter maintenance, soil, growing agents, as well as flowers, plants, and evergreens seasonally!

By Daniel Polleta, The Land, with introduction/additional reporting by 1812Blockhouse

Across the county, the pandemic has changed the ways in which Americans live and work. In terms of the latter, it has impacted the ways in which traditional central city areas function — providing new opportunities for creative approaches to downtown revitalization.

We recently ran across an interesting post discussing downtown Cleveland’s approach to the pandemic. It comes from “The Land,” a new news startup that, like 1812Blockhouse and Richland Source, is a member of LION Publishers, the country’s foremost consortium of independent online news publications. Downtown Cleveland is, of course, much larger than Mansfield’s — but some of the same factors are at play in both, as is a sense of optimism in both about the future.

We first contacted Jennifer Kime, CEO of Downtown Mansfield, Inc., to find out how downtown Mansfield has been impacted. Jennifer shared the following: More…
