Summer Road Trips: Visit The Frog Jump Capital Of Ohio

For more than 50 years, Valley City, a hamlet in northwest Medina County, has gone green and brown each summer

The reason? Frogs take to the ring to test their leaping abilities in a rather peculiar festival, the Valley City Frog Jump. Thousands of onlookers gather to watch local “frog-natics” and their amphibious competitors to enjoy the very old-fashioned fun.

Summer Road Trip: New Immersive Experience Comes To Polaris

A corner of Ohio is going to be a bit more colorful this summer.

Many in the area caught the “Immersive Van Gogh” exhibit which has run for over six months at Lighthouse ArtSpace Columbus. The next edition of immersive experiences is opening this weekend in the same space, located at 940 Polaris Parkway.

Immersive Monet & The Impressionists is a tantalizing exploration of vibrant colors on a jaw-dropping scale. The Impressionists were radicals that shook up the art world in the 19th century. Striving to capture the ever-elusive effects of sunlight and movement in expressive brushstrokes, they captured both the transient nature of beauty, and the timeless beauty of nature.

Today we’re heading again to the Columbus area for a new treat for youngsters.

The ever-popular Dinosaur Island is back from extinction and is now open at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

A wonderful arts and crafts festival set in a green park, and on the shore of Lake Erie — it doesn’t get much better than that during an Ohio summer. This month it is possible to travel an hour and a bit north to catch some lakeside air and acquire a souvenir as well.

Summer Road Trip: Ohio Mennonite Relief Sale

Today’s Summer Road Trip will take you just a few miles east on US30 to the nearby county seat of Wooster.

For 56 years, the Mennonite, Brethren, Apostolic and Amish churches of northeastern Ohio have come together to put together a festive event to raise funds for the work of Mennonite Central Committee. After a Covid-limited auction in 2020, the 2021 Ohio Mennonite Relief Sale will return in-person on August 6 & 7. The event will take place in the new air-conditioned Event Center at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster.
