The Shelby City Health Department will be sponsoring the 2018 City Wide Clean Up, which will take place from May 1 through May 5.

The City of Shelby is encouraging all residents, civic organizations, churches, and schools to use this opportunity to be “Shelby proud” and to take part. This is an opportunity to get yards spruced up and looking great.

Collection will take place in two ways:

First, a collection site will be located in the empty parking lot south of Central School (25 High School Avenue). The site will be open from 8 AM to 5 PM Tuesday through Friday, and from 8 AM to 2 PM on Saturday.

Second, yard waste items (limbs, branches, trimmings, etc.) placed beside roadways and alleys will be systematically collected Tuesday through Friday only on the following schedule:

  • Ward 1 — Tuesday
  • Ward 2 — Wednesday
  • Ward 3 — Thursday
  • Ward 4 — Friday

Note that the City will accept the following items from your exterior property:

Appliances (stoves, refrigerators, window air conditions, washer/dryers)

Yard waste (limited to limbs, branches, brush, grass clippings, weeds, and leaves)

Scrap tires that are non on rims and improperly stored on your property

What will not be accepted — hazardous waste (electronics, cleaners, stains, varnishes, batteries, automotive fluids, pesticides, herbicides, certain paints, etc.). Note that latex paint can be dried out and put in the trash; you can purchase paint hardeners from paint and home improvement stores, or you can mix paint with cat litter or sawdust; leave the lid off to speed up the drying process and to allow us to verify that the paint is not liquid; do not leave open cans near ignition sources, pets, or children.

Volunteers are needed. To do so, or to request assistance for yourself or a neighbor, call 419.342.5226 for more information.

Send us your news — of an announcement, event,
club news, fundraiser – whatever! It’s easy to do online.
