UPDATE: MARCH 25: As promised, we have updated the list of Richland County Easter Egg hunts and festivities. See below.
The traditional White House Easter Egg Roll in Washington, D.C. will be held on Monday, April 2 this year. This event has been held since 1878. You can read about the history of the Roll here on the website of the White House Historical Association.
Locally, Easter Egg hunts are mentioned in Mansfield newspapers of the early twemtieth century, primarily hosted by churches, organizations, and individuals.
One larger announcement was made in the April 17, 1930 edition of the Mansfield News, sharing that the Ohio Theatre (the current Renaissance Theatre) was planning an Easter Egg hunt starting at the pavilion in South Park, with 500 eggs to be hid. The notice states that “…it is expected that several thousand children will participate,” making it likely that more than one youngster went home empty-handed.1812Blockhouse is sharing information about hunts known to be taking place. We will add to this list prior to Easter if more events become known, and will re-publish it at that time.
