The Mansfield Division of Police Explorers Unit #7751 attended the National Law Enforcement Explorer Competition (NLEEC) at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana the week of July 16-20.

During the week of competition, there were approximately 500 teams throughout the United States and Puerto Rico that competed for awards of proficiency in various law enforcement areas of investigation including Domestic Violence, Burglary, Traffic Accident, Traffic Stop, and White Collar Crime.

The Mansfield Explorer Post sent two teams consisting of 7 Explorer members to the competition. Team A, despite being a member short due to an emergency, was able to take 5th place in “Traffic Accident Investigation”. This is the first time that a Mansfield Police Explorer Unit team has placed in a National Explorer Post Competition. Mansfield Police Officer Ron Barnes and Auxiliary Officer Ron Puff serve as Explorer Post Unit Advisors and provide guidance along with several members of the Mansfield Division of Police who have assisted throughout the year.

The entire Explorer Unit will be recognized by Mansfield City Council on Tuesday evening August 7 in the City Council Chambers for their achievement and dedication.

Mansfield Police Explorer Unit Teams: Team A: Captain Arron Clapp, Derek Tharp, Jarrod Lemley (excused due to emergency, Koryn Ray)

Team B: Crystal Phelps, Isaiah Morales, Damein Henriques

If interested in becoming a member of the Mansfield Police Explorer Post Unit, please contact Officer Ron Barnes at (419) 755-9740. Anyone between the age of 14 years (and who has completed 8th grade) through the age of 20 can apply to become a member of the Mansfield Police Explorer Post Unit.
