Lexington Band Of Gold Gains Superior Rating At State Finals

Saturday was a very good day to be a Minuteman, particularly if you love music and happened to be in Hilliard.

Hilliard Bradley High School was one of the four settings for the 2021 OMEA State Marching Band Finals competition. A total of 44 bands competed at the event, with the Lexington High School Band of Gold stepping off at 12:15 PM.

When awards were announced an hour and a half later, Lexington received a “Superior” rating in Class A.

Share Your Vocal Talent During 419 Sings

A virtual talent show will showcase talent of vocalists and bands located in the 419 area code.

It’s called “419 Sings,” and it represents a five week virtual talent show sponsored by the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, United Way of Hancock County, and First National Bank.

Sixteen finalists will be selected to compete against each other through a virtual platform over a five-week period beginning in September for the chance to win: $2,500, a recording studio session with Stone Soup Recording Studio in Maumee and their own live performance at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. Local Violinist Ella Schag Wins Concerto Competition

The annual Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition recently took place at Mansfield 1st Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Performing in the competition were local musicians: Samuel Prinz, Viola; Joseph Litao, Violin; and Ella Schag, Violin. Josh Bowman, strings teacher from Avon Lake, and Mike Sieberg, a violinist of Ashland Symphony, served as adjudicators. Ella Schag was chosen as the winner.

The daughter of Joseph and Keely Schag, Ella is a senior at Willard High School where she is concertmaster of the orchestra, member of the Symphonic Choir and Chamber Choir. She is also the captain of the Academic Challenge team, and varsity singles player for the Lady Flashes tennis program. More…

County Spelling Bees Held; Winners Crowned

The 2021 Mid-Ohio ESC County Spelling Bees took place a little differently this year, including transitioning the format to a virtual setting in order to abide by social distancing protocols. The students and coaches from 14 districts adapted well to the virtual format making the bees a great success. The format of the virtual bees was very similar to a typical bee where each student had the opportunity to spell a word in each round until a champion and runner-up were crowned.

The Crawford/Morrow County Spelling Bee was held on Thursday, January 14. Participating schools were Highland Local Schools, Cardington-Lincoln Local Schools, Northmor Local School District, Crestline Exempted Village School District, and Galion City Schools. More…

Mansfield Police Explorers Place In National Competition

The Mansfield Division of Police Explorers Unit #7751 attended the National Law Enforcement Explorer Competition (NLEEC) at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana the week of July 16-20.

During the week of competition, there were approximately 500 teams throughout the United States and Puerto Rico that competed for awards of proficiency in various law enforcement areas of investigation including Domestic Violence, Burglary, Traffic Accident, Traffic Stop, and White Collar Crime.
