As busy schedules of May set in, the American Red Cross is stepping up its appeal for blood and platelet donations to ensure a stable blood supply. During this critical period, the organization is encouraging residents across north central Ohio to become lifesavers by scheduling a donation appointment.

A Call for All Blood Types

The need for donors spans all blood types, with an emphasis on maintaining a well-stocked inventory of lifesaving blood products. The fluctuating demand often seen during the spring and summer months makes every donation session crucial. Interested donors can book a time by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, providing an accessible way for community members to contribute to a life-saving cause.

Incentives to Motivate Donors

In collaboration with Sport Clips Haircuts, the Red Cross has introduced incentives to encourage community participation. From April 29 through May 31, donors will receive a coupon for a free haircut, delivered via email. Additionally, those donating between April 29 and May 19 are entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a VIP racing experience at the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series. This package includes exclusive access to the Sport Clips hospitality tent at Darlington Raceway and a $1,000 gift card. Donors during this period will also receive a bonus $10 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. Details and registration for these offers can be found at RedCrossBlood.org/racetogive.

Upcoming Blood Drive Locations

Several bloodmobile events are scheduled across the region, providing numerous opportunities for residents to donate:

  • Wednesday, May 1: Richland Mall, Ontario, noon to 6:00 PM
  • Thursday, May 2: Clear Fork High School, Bellville, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM

This May, the simple act of donating blood could save lives and offers donors a chance to experience a unique summer event, embodying the spirit of giving and community support.
