It is our habit here at 1812Blockhouse to spotlight new websites of Richland County businesses and organizations as they appear on the web. In the last year alone, that has included new online homes for Avita Health, Madison Schools, Oak Hill Cottage, Richland Public Health, and the RichHistory Alliance.

Today, we’re doing the same for a site we visit every day. It’s not a “new build,” but we have noted that the Mansfield News Journal’s website has been updated with a new look.

As the only news media site in Richland County owned by a large national chain, The News Journal’s site now matches updates for other Gannett publications across the country.

The site had already changed the font and appearance of its masthead to match the font and look of Gannett’s flagship publication, USAToday, with the same light blue color and trademark circle.

In other Gannett publications rolling out the same design, it has been described as having a “cleaner and fresher” look, one which emphasizes stories which are new, getting attention, and most popular.

This is the latest change for a publication that has evolved many times since its formation in 1932 by merger of the Mansfield News and the Mansfield Journal. The News had been established in 1885, but the Journal was only two years old when the News Journal was created. It became a Gannett property in 2000.

As before, the News Journal website is at: www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com.
