Fifty backpacks and several boxes of school supplies were delivered to Prospect Elementary School on Thursday, courtesy of the staff at Richland Correctional Institution (RiCI) and the Women in Corrections Committee.

”Women in Corrections wanted to give back to the community. We began last year by donating backpacks and supplies to Sherman Elementary School,” said Sharon Ochoa, secretary to the RiCI warden. “Again this year RiCI staff donated supplies or funds which allowed us to buy additional backpacks and supplies, items like notebooks, crayons, pencils and glue sticks. We are glad to be able to help Prospect students.”

Rossi Azmoun, assistant to RiCI warden Dave Marquis, noted that Marquis is a former Prospect Elementary student.

“The RiCI Women in Corrections committee is an established voice regarding women’s concerns and ensuring equitable representation of fairness and equality in the workplace by working within the mission and guidelines of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction,” Azmoun said.

“Beyond the walls of Richland Correctional, the committee has made youth enrichment a priority (along with) cultivating relationships within the local community.”
