Mansfield has had more exposure on national television this fall. This time, it’s the Ohio State Reformatory’s turn to be in the spotlight.

According to its website, the Science Channel’s series Mysteries of the Abandoned features “stories behind some of the world’s most amazing engineering marvels, why they were built, and why they were eventually no longer of use. Each story highlights the people who designed the structures, their significance, and why they were ultimately left to crumble.”

Debuting on December 4, Episode 8 in this year’s edition of stories on Mysteries of the Abandoned, entitled “The Real Shawshank,” included a look at OSR. The episode description shares: “An eerie prison with a dark past that became the setting of an iconic Hollywood movie and alien monoliths on a strange and remote island are deserted engineering projects, and new discoveries reveal how they were built and why they were abandoned.”

The episode is available for viewing here for those with access.
