You may well have noticed that the 80 degree weather of recent days has ended, with at least a short term dose of fall taking its place. What better time to head to southern Richland County and to view Malabar Farm State Park in one of its most beautiful seasons.

Over the next several days, there are two extra-good reasons to do so.

On Saturday, October 13 at 7 PM, Movie Night takes place. The film this time is “Johnny Come Lately,” a 1943 classic starring James Cagney and Marjorie Main. Snack on popcorn and sip hot chocolate in the Main Barn watching this work based on a book by Malabar’s Louis Bromfield.

Wikipedia describes the plot in this fashion, “In 1906, Tom Richards (James Cagney), a drifter, arrives in Plattsville and befriends newspaper proprietor Vinnie McLeod (Grace George), who is battling the corruption of the town’s leading citizen W.M. Dougherty (Edward McNamara). He takes over as managing editor of the Plattsville “Shield and Banner” and, despite initial resistance from the oppressed citizens, finally drives Dougherty out of town.”

Food concessions will be provided by the Malabar Farm Foundation. There is no charge for watching the movie itself.

Then, on October 19 and 20 (from 7 PM to 10 PM) and October 21 (from noon to 3 PM), a new event comes to Malabar – “Haunting at the Harvest.”

Guests will experience a haunted hay-ride and hike around the harvest fields of Malabar. Families can also find fun-fall activities. A food concession will be available.

Cost for Haunting at the Harvest is just $3 per person.
