There’s great news this month at Oak Hill Cottage, inside and out!

The inside news comes in the form of the commencement of tours for the 2018 season. This year, tours are available on Sundays from 2 PM to 5PM, now through December. The price is just $5, and $1 for children 12 and under. During the Sunday tour hours, the Carriage House is open at no charge.

Speaking of the Carriage House, that building houses a made-in-Mansfield 1905 National automobile which can be viewed, the only such vehicle known to exist.

The great “outside” news comes in the form of a new online presence for Oak Hill Cottage, located at oakhillcottage.org. Easy to follow links take visitors to sections on the house’s history, upcoming events and news, a look at Gothic Revival architecture, membership information, and more. The home page showcases a photo collection of historic and current images.

Known as one of the most perfect Gothic Revival houses in the country, Oak Hill occupies a position on a hill north of downtown Mansfield. Businessman John Robinson, who was an associated of John Sherman, built the house in 1847; it was then purchased by Dr. Johannes Aten Jones. Descendants of Dr. Jones sold the house to the Richland County Historical Society in the 1960s.

Oak Hill Cottage will be participating in this May’s RichHistory Weekend. Stay tuned to 1812Blockhouse for details.
