TED Talks is a modern cultural, intellectual, in-person, and online phenomenon that began with conferences on focusing on technology entertainment, and design (TED) back in 1984. These conferences became annual events beginning in 1990 in Long Beach, California and since spreading to events held throughout the year across North America, Europe, and Asia.

TEDx are independent TED-like events, which can be organized by anyone who obtains a free license from TED, agreeing to follow certain principles. TEDx events are non-profit but may use an admission fee or commercial sponsorship to cover costs. Similarly, speakers are not paid.

For the first time, this experience arrives in north central Ohio this November with the first TEDxMansfield.

Event organizers have recently announced both the lineup of speakers and the availability of tickets for the afternoon, which will take place on Saturday, November 3 from noon until 5 PM at the Renaissance Theatre.

Centering on the theme of “Metamorphosis,” the first-ever TEDxMansfield speakers will be:

  • Terri Teal Bucci, Associate Professor of Mathematics, The Ohio State University
  • Sophia Buggs, Urban Farming Advocate, Lady Buggs Farm.
  • Kristoffer “KC” Carter, Executive Coach, Kristoffer Carter LLC.
  • Aurelio Villa Luna Diaz, Community Development Coordinator, Downtown Mansfield, Inc.
  • Collier Landry, Filmmaker & CInematographer, Collier Landry Productions.
  • Philip Mazzocco, Associate Professor of Psychology, The Ohio State University

These speakers were chosen from some 50 applications from individuals in four countries.

General admission tickets are $50 which provide the purchaser a general seating experience. Section A tickets are $75, and include preferred seating, a “meet and great” experience with speakers following the event. Ticket are available for purchase online at this location.
