The Ohio Department of Transportation is planning a road project near Malabar Farm State Park, and is seeking public comment on its plans.
ODOT is planning to conduct a slide repair along State Route (SR) 603 located near Malabar Farm State Park and Mohican State Park in Richland County. The repair will consist of installing a plug pile wall along the berm of SR 603 just northwest of the intersection with SR 95.
The repair will prevent further road failure as a result of Switzer Creek eroding the steep bank.
No new permanent right-of-way will be required to conduct this work. No stream, wetlands, or ecological resources will be impacted. The 100-year floodplain of Switzer Creek will not be impacted by this project. There will be deep excavation required at this location to install the plug pile drilled shafts. Utilities will not be relocated.
This project will require 45-day road closures.
The detour route for northbound SR 603 traffic will be SR 95 eastbound to SR 39 northbound to SR 603 northbound. The southbound traffic detour route will be the reverse of the northbound detour route. Construction is anticipated to begin in in November 2019.
