Measured by unemployment rates, things are looking good for Richland County and the surrounding area.
Richland and neighboring Crawford Counties both registered 4.8 percent unemployment in March, according to figures released on Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. For Richland County, that was down from 5.2 percent in February, and reduced from 5.8 percent one year ago.
Rates for Richland and surrounding counties, as well as for the city of Mansfield specifically, were as follows (rows are, left to right, total labor force, number employed, number unemployed, March 2018 rate, February 2018 rate, March 2017 rate):

Ohio’s unemployment rate was 4.4 percent in March 2018, down from 4.5 percent in February 2018. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased 10,800 over the month, from a revised 5,568,400 in February to 5,579,200 in March 2018.
The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in March was 253,000, down 9,000 from 262,000 in February. The number of unemployed has decreased by 40,000 in the past 12 months from 293,000. The March unemployment rate for Ohio decreased from 5.1 percent in March 2017.
Across Ohio, the rates ranged from an amazing 2.4 percent in Mercer County to 8.5 percent in Monroe County.
The U.S. unemployment rate for March was 4.1 percent, unchanged from February, and down from 4.5 percent in March 2017.
