Downtown Mansfield looks more colorful this week as the new, two-way Diamond Street was unveiled between First Street and Sixth Street.

More than $550,000 was spent on the street conversion, which included the installation of new light signaling and striping.

At the same time, downtown advocates took the opportunity to enhance the sides of Diamond Street with new decorative elements, including benches and dozens of planters, through a public-private partnership which included the City of Mansfield, Downtown Mansfield, Inc., and many volunteers.

The particular types of elements chosen match those planned for the large Main Street project, currently planned for completion in 2024. By doing so, the items can be “tried out” and, if successful, will not need to be replaced when the project happens one block to the west.

The small “conversation area” on the southwest corner of Diamond and Fourth Street, shown in these photos, has already welcomed downtown pedestrians taking a few minutes off to relax.
