This Saturday, the Richland County Park District will be offering two opportunities to get to know the outdoors.
First, Naturalist Kyle Bailey will be hosting the second Magnificent Moths and Caterpillar program of the season. Learn about the natural history of months through a “moth lighting” — setting out a sheet with lights to attract the flying insects and then inspecting the property for larval caterpillars. The lighting will take place after a talk about moths and mothing.
The fun takes place at dusk — starting at 9 PM at the Gorman Nature Center.
The Park District is also hosting a stewardship activity the same day, also at the Gorman Nature Center. This month’s project involves Wild Parsnip and the Common Teasel.
Be sure to dress for the weather and the event (closed toe shoes are required), while gloves will be provided. It will take place between 11 AM and 2 PM.
In both cases, Eventbrite registration is required and can be accomplished here for the moth event, and here for the stewardship project. More information is available at: 419.884.3784. Park district health and safety guidelines will be in place, including social distancing, hand sanitizer, self health monitoring, etc..
