In cooperation with local and state health guidelines for social distancing during the recent surge in COVID19 cases, the 2020 Downtown Mansfield annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, held in partnership with the City of Mansfield, will be hosted virtually this year. In lieu of an in person event, historically held at Richland Carrousel Park, the celebration will move online during the previously scheduled date of Friday, December 4.

“The Downtown Mansfield Christmas Time in the City Tree Lighting event has been one of our most loved and we have been thrilled to see it grow over the years. Unfortunately, after much discussion, we feel that the best decision is the most difficult one and we will be taking the Christmas tree lighting to a virtual platform this year.” Jennifer Kime, CEO of DMI said, “We invite you be a part of our downtown holiday traditions in a new way, this year.”

On Friday, December 4 at 6:00p PM, Downtown Mansfield, Inc. (DMI) will host the virtual lighting on the DMI Facebook page (facebook.com/downtownmansfield). The event will include many familiar faces including, emcee Tommy Barnes, Mayor of Mansfield, Tim Theaker and a wonderful performance at the Renaissance Theatre by local group, Coma Love comprised of Aaron & Allie Nicolas. Special thanks to local videographer Austin Howard and his business, Life Is Art, for putting this virtual experience together.

This, traditionally well-attended in person Christmas ceremony will be missed by many, downtown Mansfield continues to be a bright spot in the community, and we invite everyone to come downtown and enjoy the beautiful lights, shops, and restaurants during the holiday season. “Our businesses have been operating with an abundance of precautions during the pandemic, they are open, and we encourage you to shop, dine, and explore throughout this most wonderful time of the year!” said Kime.
