We doubt that it would come as a surprise that the most-read story of 2020 on 1812Blockhouse would have to do with the COVID-19 pandemic.

It would be difficult to overestimate the impact that that public health crisis has had on north central Ohio and, or course, the rest of the country and world. The largest audience for any single post this year dealt with that topic.

We’ll be talking about that subject a bit later in the week, however we’re beginning the last week of 2020 in a different place. We are first looking at the top stories of the year in terms of site traffic that dealt with subjects other than the Coronavirus.

Those most-read posts cover a wide range of subjects. In no particular order, they were:

In April, we looked at an industry publication’s claim that AK Steel was set to idle local production.

A story in June talked about a local event that came about as a result of powerful national dialogue and protest nationwide concerning racial and justice matters. In the post, we discussed how the Mansfield Police reacted to possible local violence.

One of our most read stories of 2020 came about as a post in our “Everything You Always Wanted To Know About” series. In July, we turned our lens on Clearfork Reservoir.

A September 2020 post shared news of the transfer of a Mansfield radio station from Mansfield Christian School to a private buyer. The reported sales price was $190,000.

In November’s post ” Is Amtrak On Its Way To Or Through Richland County?,” we shared recent discussions nationwide that would see an expanded rail network bring passenger service either to, with a local stop, or through the county along the former Big Four rail line.

Overall traffic on 1812Blockhouse increased over 80%, reflecting similar growth for online news sites around the country. Our strongest single month for traffic was November.
