A visit on Monday to Kingwood Center Gardens was doubly fun – it you don’t count being swarmed by hungry ducks.

As always, the gardens are beautiful in the summer, and the greenhouses are a busy place with a current display of bromeliads and sales of mums. Kingwood Hall’s doors are open each day, welcoming visitors with stories of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kelley King. While in the Flower Room, a peacock made its presence known by looking in the floor length window.

One large change at Kingwood this summer is the obvious construction going on for the new Garden Gateway Center Project. It’s very hard to miss – it takes up much of the space in the northwest corner of the traditional gardens area, to the west of the pond in what was most recently a large parking area. More on the new Center can be found here.

Speaking of that project, which will add a new 15,000 square foot visitors and conference center, a small group of donors recently enjoyed the first “Hard Hat Tour.” These tours, which include a first hand look of construction progress, will be by invitation but also through open tours, according to the project blog. Those notices will appear on Kingwood’s website.
