Mid Ohio Women’s Business Showcase Coming To The Renaissance

The Richland Area Chamber of Commerce invites the public to attend the 2nd Annual Women’s Business Showcase on Wednesday, September 21 at The Renaissance Theater. This unique and exciting event showcases dozens of local women-owned or operated businesses.

A ribbon cutting at 10:45am kicks off the event and it runs to 1:00 PM. Admission is free and open to the public (registration is not necessary to attend). A portion of proceeds from vendor registration will benefit the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, a dynamic new program teaching middle and high school students to start a business.

Time To Start Thinking About Flu Shots

The coming of winter is not too many weeks away, and the arrival of slightly cooler temperatures puts one in mind of the possibility of a seasonal flu. No one wants that experience. Never fear, as Richland Public Health has announced flu vaccine clinics for two Tuesdays in October. On October 18 and 25, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, clinics will be held at the offices of RPH, 555 Lexington Avenue (in the Corley Room, lower level, rear parking lot).

One Week Old And Words To Share

Last Thursday evening, a click of a mouse was all it took to bring 1812Blockhouse alive. Truth be told, we snuck online on social media a couple of days before that. At that time, a Mansfield-based journalist we know (who shall remain nameless) sent an email which said, in part, “Welcome to the party!”

While maybe not a party, the last week has been great. It seems a good time to share a couple of things with our new readers.

Mansfield City And Madison Local Match Area In School Report Cards

Across north central Ohio, there were very few bright spots as the State of Ohio Department of Education released school district report cards this morning.

Both Mansfield City and Madison Local Schools earned an overall “F” for indicators met, however this was a common occurrence not only in Richland but in the north central Ohio area. The Mansfield News Journal reported this morning that 14 districts in Richland, Ashland, and Crawford Counties received “Fs”. More…

OSU Trained Literacy Coaches Make A Difference

Pat Gordon’s passion for developing literacy initiatives that improve student achievement burns as intensely as it did when she first began working with the Ohio State University in Columbus more than 20 years ago.

An elementary teacher in Mansfield City Schools for nearly 30 years before retiring two years ago, Gordon was the first district teacher to complete training through OSU’s Literacy Collaborative. The program is a nationally recognized, research-based instructional method for teaching reading and writing. Since then, other district teachers have joined Gordon as certified literacy coaches after completing the year-long training required by OSU. Downtown Farmers Market Continues Through September

The produce may have changed over the last several months, but the 2016 edition of the Downtown Farmers Market continues on through the end of September. The next installment takes place on Friday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

According to the Downtown Mansfield, Inc. website, the market is located on Fourth Street between Main Street and Walnut Street in front of Richland Carrousel Park. Patron parking is conviently located at the Mansfield Municipal Parking Lot at the corner of Fourth Street and Main Street and is free. Parking is also available at any metered space in downtown. The Ohio Directions Card is accepted and many vendors accept both cash and credit cards. The market is sponsored by Richland Bank.

Chamber Foundation Director To Retire

The Mansfield-Richland Area Education Foundation, also known as the “Chamber Foundation”, has announced that Bill Sharp will retire from the organization in October where he has served as the Director since 2000.

In this role, Sharp has overseen a number of highly successful programs such as Leadership Unlimited, Young Leaders Institute, Economic Club and Inside Richland County. In 2015, Sharp launched the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA! Richland), an innovative program which teaches students how to launch and run their own businesses. More…
