OhioHealth Appears Caught In The Cross Currents Of The Mandate Debate

7 Dec , 2021

By 1812Blockhouse

OhioHealth, the nonprofit health care chain with a substantial presence in Richland County, appears to be treading treacherous waters very carefully indeed.

Consider, for instance, a news release from OhioHealth dated December 2, and which references the new omicron variant while emphasizing on the need for vaccinations. “Nothing really changes what we’re doing. The best defense we have for infection, whether with this variant or the delta variant, still is to get vaccinated.”

Avita Seeking Type 2 Diabetes Patients For Study

15 Jun , 2021

Special to 1812Blockhouse

Avita Health System is participating in the Personalized-Medication Adherence and Persistence Program (P-MAPP) – a national research initiative to better understand the medication perceptions of patients with Type 2 diabetes. Avita is currently seeking patients with Type 2 diabetes to participate in ongoing research at Galion and Ontario Hospitals.

P-MAPP was developed in collaboration with the FDA’s Center for Drug Research; it brings together real world data with input from patients. For more than 12 months, Avita’s team of pharmacists have been actively recruiting patients and engaging their input on what drives decisions regarding how, when, and if they take certain medications to manage their diabetes. The study will continue for another year.

“One thing you encounter in researching the habits of patients is we too often only look objectively at patient data in databases of information rather than simply engaging the patient for their input on their habits,” said Brad Schwartz, Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager at Avita Health System. Hospital-level care at home — some of it provided over the internet — is poised to grow after more than a decade as a niche offering, boosted both by hospitals eager to ease overcrowding during the pandemic and growing interest by insurers who want to slow health care spending. But a host of challenges remain, from deciding how much to pay for such services to which kinds of patients can safely benefit. More…
