It was a big day for nurses at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital last Tuesday. The hospital awarded 84 nursing scholarships, part of the 91 total for Mansfield and Shelby Hospitals. It was a record for the hospitals, and according to Senior Advisor of Philanthropy Erin Stine, nearly $20,000 more than last year.
Dozens of nurses packed Mansfield Hospital’s Medical Office Building to receive their awards. Two of them were sisters.
“I was not expecting the email when I read it,” said Molly Ardis, a surgical ICU nurse at Mansfield Hospital. Nurses Molly Ardis and her sister, Emma, say the amount of scholarship funding was a pleasant surprise and will go to good use.
Emma plans to use the money to take classes for graduate school. Molly will use hers to complete her Bachelor’s Degree.
The sisters say it was a relief they both earned the money, as the surgical ICU nurses work together every day. “We work like every shift together,” said Molly Ardis.
As for the dozens of other associates receiving scholarships, the money will go towards educational degrees and professional development. Stine says it’s all thanks to patient and associate donors, and of course, OhioHealth. “It’s really just fun to be a part of,” said Stine. “To work for a system like OhioHealth, that isn’t shy or hesitant about making sure the nurses have what they need to be the best versions of themselves and grow in their educational pursuits, it’s really cool to see.”
