The former Central United Methodist Church on Park Avenue West, now the Bethesda Fellowship Ministry Center, was dedicated on August 27, 1911.
It was designed by Vernon Redding, Mansfield’s best known and most prolific architect of his era, who was also the architect for the Leland Hotel and Carnegie Library building. Because of its heavy stone massing, it has been described as being of the Richardson Romanesque style, but its sloping roof with exposed truss ends, as well as its date of construction, suggests Arts and Crafts influences as well. The exterior is of Sandusky limestone with Bedford white stone trim. A 14 foot cloister is featured on the east side of the sanctuary. More…

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, We ACT, and Richland County Children Services are partnering along with many community organizations to collect socks for nursing home residents. Socks will be donated to local nursing facilities.
Public drop-off sites collecting socks include: Richland County Children’s Services, Area Agency on Aging, First Christian Church of Ashland, Ashland County Council on Aging, Ontario Lions Club, Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital, Ashland Public Library, Shelby Community and Senior Center, Mansfield St. Peter’s Parish, City of Mansfield Administrative Office (Safety Director Lori Cope), and Marion Technical College. The Toldeo Blade posted a story on Saturday evening stating that the Diocese of Toledo had announced that it had placed the Rev. Nelson Beaver on administrative leave after an allegation was made that he sexually abused a minor more than two decades ago. During the leave, the Blade stated, Nelson would not be able to engage in pastoral duties for Resurrection Parish in Lexington and St. Mary’s in Mansfield. More…

2017 marks the Bicentennial for the Diocese of Ohio, the first diocese of the Episcopal Church outside of the original thirteen colonies. For the first decades of its existence, the legal and spiritual home of the diocese was in nearby Gambier, home to Kenyon College. Kenyon was founded by Philander Chase, the first Bishop of Ohio.
