Eight seniors in the career health tech class at Mansfield Senior High School already have achieved State Tested Nurse Aide certification.

Instructor Jennifer Johnson said four other students have passed one part of the STNA and are working to pass the written portion.

Johnson’s senior and junior students organized a blood draw in their classroom area by the Richland County Chapter of the American Red Cross on Thursday. Forty-seven donors were scheduled between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Johnson said students plan to parlay their STNA certification into other health care fields, including continuing their education to become LPNs and RNs. She said senior Destiny Craft plans to enlist in the U.S. Army this summer to pursue a military nursing career. “My students are doing lots of wonderful things, including seven who are working in a long-term care facility,” Johnson said. “They are Trinitee Jones, Maurisha Griffin, Theyonna Phelps, Jaziyia Thomas, Tiandra Williams, Jeneeyah Beasley and Elaine Stewart. Jasaya Harris is shadowing the school nurse at Foundations Academy. We also are working with the school athletic trainer to get other students involved in observing and assisting at MSHS sporting events.”

The eight students already certified as STNAs are Jasaya Harris, Jhamonte’ Glover, Theyonna Phelps, Trinitee Jones, Destiny Craft, Tyrek Gordon, Jaziyia Thomas and Tiandra Williams.
