Don’t let the cold and snow keep you indoors. Ohio State Parks offer camping opportunities throughout the winter season.

Generally, winter season runs from November 1 through March 31, however that varies by park. The cost to camp is $3 less than during peak season weekends, though rates due vary by park. Not all parks accept reservations, and most are walk-in only.

In fact, only 8 parks close, and those vary by date. Most campgrounds do reduce the number of campsites that are maintained, and significant snowfall can further reduce the number of campsites that are maintained.

When in doubt about availability, call before your trip.

The availability of services – water, electric, shower house, dump station, etc. also varies by park. Call each park office if you have questions.

Campgrounds open in the Mansfield area include:

Mohican – dump station, water available
Mt. Gilead – electric sites, dump station, water available; extends to April 30.
