In an effort to promote the health and preparedness of student-athletes in Richland County, Avita Center for Sports Health has announced a remarkable opportunity. On June 8 from 7:45 AM to 1:00 PM, the Avita Ontario South Campus at 600 Richland Mall in Ontario will be the hub for a day dedicated to sports physicals — all without cost. This proactive step is a gesture that underscores the community’s dedication to youth sports and the wellbeing of its participants.

Avita makes it clear that health and preparation go hand in hand. The process for obtaining these sports physicals is organized into three easy steps. First, interested parties must sign up online by June 1 at the Avita Health website. Following registration, students are to come prepared with a completed 2024-2025 OHSAA physical questionnaire. Lastly, punctuality is paramount as appointments are strict, and walk-ins are not permitted — a policy that underscores the value of both time management and orderliness.

Physicals will be administered by Avita Health System medical providers, athletic trainers, nurses, therapists, and volunteers.

The initiative targets a broad spectrum of students in grades 7-12 (for school year 2024-2025), aiming to ensure that no athlete is sidelined due to lack of access to a sports physical. By offering services on a first-come, first-served basis, Avita is prioritizing health access and the importance of early action.

The drive for these physicals isn’t merely a procedural requirement for participation in school sports. It represents a larger commitment to student health, as it screens for potential issues that could affect young athletes’ ability to play and thrive in their chosen sports. By identifying such concerns early, Avita is helping to lay a foundation for a safer and more enjoyable season ahead.
