When the Ohio Development Services Agency announced recipients this week for some 49 grants totaling $10 million, the City of Mansfield was among them.

The grants are designed to help local communities across the state enhance public safety and cut costs. The Local Government Innovation Council provides funding in two ways:

  • Local Government Innovation Program (LGIP) offers loan assistance to communities for plans and projects that create more efficient service delivery at the local level.
  • Local Government Safety Capital Grant Program (LGSC) offers communities assistance to enhance public safety.

Together, these programs assist communities with shared services and efficiency projects in all aspects of operations.

This is the second round of awards for the Local Government Safety Capital Grant Program, which provides grants for the purchase of vehicles, equipment, facilities or systems needed to enhance public safety. “Communities are working together to improve their safety services, and save taxpayers money,” said David Goodman, director of the Ohio Development Services Agency.

The $66,905 grant for the City of Mansfield is for hazmat equipment. Another area community receiving a grant was the City of Galion, which is receiving $150,000 for a new ambulance.
