The Water Treatment Plant for the City of Mansfield has shared an overview of operations during 2021, providing citizens with answers and information about how their drinking water is purified, distributed, and monitored.

The Water Quality Report emphasizes that Mansfield’s drinking water met all applicable quality standards during that period. It then sets out to answer a set of basic questions concerning the system and the water it produces.

Many Mansfielders may be unaware that water in the system is obtained from two sources – surface water from Clearfork Reservoir, and well water from ten municipal wells. The water from those places is combined in almost equal quantities to create the source that is then purified and sent out.

To be transparent, the report details what contaminants might be present even after treatment. Microbes, pesticides, and even radioactive elements may be included in minute and non-hardmful quantities as a natural byproduct of using naturally-sourced water. 

One element which is specifically reviewed in the report is lead. While every effort is made to reduce the amount of lead in the water that arrives in your home, practical steps can still be taken to further reduce that element, such as flushing your tap (running your water) for 30 seconds to two minutes before use.
