Mansfield Setting Out To Flush 2,290 Fire Hydrants

The City of Mansfield Fire Department is planning a fire hydrant flow testing and flushing program starting June 7.

The program will continue thru-out the summer until all hydrants have been tested and flowed. Personnel will begin testing and flushing hydrants in the southern part of Mansfield and work their way out north to the airport.

Testing will normally be conducted between 9 AM and 4 PM. Citizens may experience temporary low flow pressure or water discoloration. During times of testing, hydrants could be left open and continue to flow until testing is complete. More…

City To Residents: Last Chance This Week To Make Water Meter Installation Appointments

The following communication concerning new water meter installations was issued on Monday by the City of Mansfield.

Despite the troubles brought on by COVID 19, the City was able to install more than 7000 meters as part of its city-wide project to install new water meters and remote reading devices. The City thanks all those residents/customers for responding to appointment requests and allowing Aclara/SGS workers into their homes or businesses. However, the total number of customers receiving metered water are in excess of 18,000, meaning there are 11,000 plus customers that need to have new meters and reading devices installed. More…

Section Of North Main Closed

Water main repairs have necessitated the closure of a section of North Main Street in downtown Mansfield.

On Monday, the City of Mansfield closed North Main Street from Fourth Street to North Park Street.

Mansfield Moves Ahead With Service Line Cleaning

At Council’s virtual meetings on Monday evening, two pieces of legislation received the most discussion.

One, the creation of a Community Reinvestment Area program for the City of Mansfield, was covered by 1812Blockhouse in a previous post.

The other dealt with a $58,000 piece of cleaning. In specific, the measure first heard by Council’s Finance Committee would authorize a contract with a particular vendor, without bidding, for the inspection and cleaning of the main service line at the City’s Water Treatment Plant. More…

Public Hearing To Be Held On New Private Water System Fees

The Ohio Department of Health has added two new fee categories for Private Water Systems; these categories became effective on January 1. Richland Public Health has scheduled a hearing to provide the public with an opportunity to ask questions or make comments on the new fees. Each new fee is $100.

Ohio’s private water systems program regulates wells, springs, rain water cisterns, hauled water storage tanks and ponds that provide potable water to fewer than 25 people per day and have fewer than 15 service connections. More…

County Water Quality Grants Available

Have an idea on how to improve the water quality in your community? Share your idea with the Richland County Farm Bureau so it can apply for a water quality grant.

The Ohio Farm Bureau is offering $150,000 in county water quality grants as part of its comprehensive Water Quality Action Plan. In order to receive a grant, a local match contribution (cash or in-kind) to the project equal to at least 100 percent of the amount requested in OFBF funds must be arranged. At least 50 percent of the matching funds must come from project partners outside of Farm Bureau. More…
