The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) is holding a free two-day Hunter Education course.

Successfully passing the Hunter Education course is a requirement for all first-time license buyers in Ohio, except those who hunt with an apprentice license. Certified volunteers and MWCD staff, all specially trained by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), will teach the courses. Instructors will cover a range of topics, from conservation, safety, and ethics to the proper handling of shotguns, handguns, bowhunting gear, and more.

Participants should not bring firearms or archery equipment to class – all necessary equipment will be provided. Once the course work is complete, a 100-question multiple-choice test will be administered. A student must score 75% or higher on the test to pass and obtain certification.

The course will be held at the Appleseed Heritage Center (located off State Route 603 at Charles Mill Lake Park) on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day. Participants must attend both days, which will amount to approximately 12 hours of classroom instruction.

Coffee and snacks will be provided, but attendees should bring their own lunch as there are no nearby restaurant options. Those interested should pre-register through the ODNR website (the event code to provide when registering is 1000042426).
