Ohio Supreme Court Hears Arguments In Armed Teachers Case

The issue of whether or not school districts should be allowed to determine firearms policies and the level of training needed comes down to grammar and the English language, according to attorneys who argued the case before the Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday.

The state’s highest court heard arguments in a lawsuit regarding a Butler County district’s ability to allow personnel to carry guns on school property.

The focus of the lawsuit became the meaning of one sentence in Ohio law creating conditions on being armed in schools. More…

Ohio Hunter Education Course To Be Held Locally

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) is holding a free two-day Hunter Education course.

Successfully passing the Hunter Education course is a requirement for all first-time license buyers in Ohio, except those who hunt with an apprentice license. Certified volunteers and MWCD staff, all specially trained by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), will teach the courses. Instructors will cover a range of topics, from conservation, safety, and ethics to the proper handling of shotguns, handguns, bowhunting gear, and more. More…

Mansfielder Among Five Indicted For Federal Firearms Violations

Five people have been indicted for firearms violations, including one from Mansfield, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio.

Indicted are: Marriece L. Ellis, 25, and Warren J. McCray, Jr., 23, both of Akron; Shauntare Davis, 31, of Warren; Frank Arthur Thompson, III, 45, of Conneaut, and James D. Butler, 55, of Mansfield. More…

Concealed Carry Laws Change; Manual Available

This week, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced that an update of his office’s Concealed Carry Laws Manual has been released reflecting recent changes enacted by Senate Bill 199. The updated manual is currently available online, and printed copies of the guide will be available from county sheriffs.
