On Monday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director Mary Mertz awarded $1.7 million in grants to support dozens of new outdoor recreation projects in local communities across the state.
Those projects included one in Richland County, as well as projects in Crawford, Huron, and Knox Counties as well.
“We are excited to help communities all over Ohio create fun, safe, and inclusive outdoor recreation opportunities,” said Governor DeWine. “These grants help local parks improve and upgrade their outdoor spaces for citizens of Ohio.”
The grants, awarded as part of the NatureWorks program, will support 68 outdoor recreation projects in 62 counties. Projects include the development of playgrounds, natural playscapes, trails, restrooms, dog parks, baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, splash pads, and picnic shelters.More…

Northwest and north central Ohio’s public lakes and reservoirs offer some of the best fishing in the Buckeye State for yellow perch, saugeye, and more, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Richland County is well represented in that list.
Ohio has 124,000 acres of inland water, 7,000 miles of streams, 2.25 million acres of Lake Erie water, and 481 miles of the Ohio River. At $25 for a resident one-year fishing license, fishing is a cost-effective and accessible outdoor reactional activity.
The Division of Wildlife has numerous resources available to assist anglers, including lake maps, fishing tips by species, and fishing forecasts. Many of these resources are available right at your fingertips with the HuntFish OH mobile app. Fishing regulations and an interactive fishing map can be located with ease from any mobile device. The great folks at Pleasant Hill Lake Park have brought nature a bit closer to you this spring in the form of a live camera view of an osprey nest near the Swim Beach/Marina area.
You can now see unplanned and real-time activity anytime. So unplanned, in fact, that the Park added this disclaimer about what you might observe as you watch:
“NOTICE: This is a wild Osprey nest, and anything can happen. While we hope that healthy Osprey chicks will end up fledging from the nest, things like sibling rivalry, predators, and natural disasters can affect the Osprey family and may be difficult to watch. As hard as it may be to see anything happen to our Osprey, we will let nature take its course and will not intervene.” More…
