This year we’re continuing our weekly look at unique events and attractions that are within an easy driving distance of Richland County. We call these “Summer Road Trips.” Of course, we regularly feature the many extraordinary places to visit right here in Richland County and encourage our readers to get out and experience what is on offer in our own backyard.

A wonderful arts and crafts festival set in a green park, and on the shore of Lake Erie — it doesn’t get much better than that during an Ohio summer. This month it is possible to travel an hour and a bit north to catch some lakeside air and acquire a souvenir as well.

The annual Arts in the Park Festival is routinely held on the first full weekend of August in beautiful Port Clinton, and this year’s event takes place this Saturday and Sunday, August 7 and 8.

One of the largest festivals in the area is also a great place to view items from over 100 artists from across the Midwest, and of course to purchase an item or two to take home with you.

That’s not it, however. This free event also includes a Children’s Make and Take, entertainment, and great Ohio summer food — including, of course, Lake Erie perch.

The hours are from 10 AM until 5 PM on Saturday, and then from 10 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. The venue is the scenic Lakeview Park on Perry Street in Port Clinton.

The event is hosted by the Port Clinton Artists Club. The Club was founded in 1956 to provide opportunities for our members to advance their artistic skills. This community of artists embrace art through regular meetings, workshops and field trips.
