A bit of Switzerland came to just off The Brickyard on Saturday as The Alphorn Band performed in the courtyard area of The Phoenix Brewing Company.

The alphorn itself is, according to the ever-reliable Wikipedia, a “labrophone,” meaning that it produces sounds by the player buzzing his lips into a mouthpiece (think any brass instrument). The horns were traditionally used by mountain-dwellers in the high areas of central Europe. Their original uses are clouded in some mystery. The Mansfield performance was part of the Oktoberfest celebration at the Brewery. A nice sized group of people were present to enjoy this taste of Europe.
