Founded in 1937 by Officer Frend Boals, the Safety Town program was established in Mansfield following a tragic incident where a child was struck and killed by a car on their way to school. This long-standing program has been dedicated to teaching young children essential safety skills, ensuring they are prepared for the everyday challenges they might face.

What is Safety Town?

Safety Town is a comprehensive safety education program offered by the Mansfield Division of Police and tailored for children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2024. Through interactive lessons, children learn crucial safety measures, including traffic rules, pedestrian safety, and general safety awareness. The program is structured to foster socialization among children who will attend the same school, helping them build friendships and confidence.

2024 Program Schedule

The Safety Town program for 2024 is divided into three sessions to accommodate various Mansfield City elementary schools. Each session runs for ten days, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday through Friday, providing a mix of instructional and hands-on learning experiences. The registration deadline for the first session is now closed, but two remain:

  • Second Session: June 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, July 1, 2, 3, 5 (Closed July 4)
    • Schools: St. Peters, 1st Assembly Day Care, Mansfield Christian, RSSA, St. Mary’s, Temple Christian
  • Third Session: July 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19
    • Open to all. If this is your first choice, please indicate a backup session.
