News from the City of Ontario about the possible GetGo gas station project at the present site of Cheddar’s on Lexington-Springmill Road is an example of just how strong the gas station/convenience store market is in this part of Ohio.
One of the most unique such retailers in the area is making huge strides in opening locations across the Columbus market, and is in the process of moving up the road, closer to Richland County.
Sheetz is a family-owned convenience store chain that originated in Pennsylvania and sells custom food, beverages, and convenience store items. Nearly all sell gasoline as well, and a few also have truck stop facilities.
The chain’s 21st store in the Columbus market, which it entered in only the last few years, opens this week near Polaris. It is part of a stated goal of opening 50 Sheetz stores in that market by 2025.
Moving up I-71, a new Sheetz store is presently under construction at 511 State Route 61 in Marengo. The location on the northeast corner of the I-71 and SR61 intersection is perhaps best known as being the location of the “Lion’s Den” adult bookstore for decades.
The new Sheetz will likely assist local commuters and travelers to Columbus in their trip down and back along I-71. It is slated to open this year.
