We recently shared a story from Advertising Age looking at the factors which may be used in determining which Macy’s are among the 100 locations to be closed in 2017.

As it turns out, many national retailers are planning to deal with changes in consumer behavior – particularly the rise of online shopping – by shuttering some of their physical locations. As this story on the blog of self-styled consumer expert Clark Howard shares, however, chains that are making similar plans include some with Mansfield area locations.

These include a handful with operations at Richland Mall, including American Eagle, The Children’s Place, and Finish Line. Walgreen’s is also planning to close stores; according to Howard’s blog, some 200 locations will close nationwide by 2017.

As shared in the Advertising Age article referred to above (click here), many factors go into making such decisions. At least one recent corporate downsizing had an impact in north central Ohio, but not in Mansfield. The Sears store at Southland Mall in Marion was recently closed among ten others across the country.

The Columbus Dispatch recently profiled the possibility of Macy’s closure in that city, speculating that one or more may be at risk and when closures might be announced. Click here to read.
