It’s the time of year when high school football enters its final weeks collegiate and high school basketball seasons begin.
With that comes the opening games for the 2019-2020 season for The Ohio State University at Mansfield’s men’s and women’s basketball squads. Both are members of the Ohio Regional Campus Conference (ORCC) which OSUM joined in 2010. The ORCC includes nine regional campuses from Ohio State, Ohio University, Akron, Wayne State, and Miami University.
The women’s team, known as the Lady Mavericks, has its home opener on November 12 at 5:30 PM against the University of Akron-Wayne. Head coach of the Lady Mavericks is Marty McKenzie.
For their part, the men’s team begins the season this week on the road, first with a Friday game against Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky, and then on Saturday the Mavericks take on Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky. The first home game will be at 7 PM on November 12, immediately after the women’s home opener and also against the University of Akron-Wayne.

This year’s Mavericks includes several Richland County high school graduates, including Hunter Enger of Shelby; Chaise Lunsford and Bronson Henry of Madison; Christian Beer of Clear Fork; and Troy Vermillion of Ontario. The team is guided by coach Don Nelson.
