The Beatles are coming to downtown Mansfield this Thursday. Not in person, mind you, but certainly the sounds and sights of the Fab Four.
“The Beatles in Cleveland” will bring vintage footage and five tables of rare memorabilia from the group’s visits to Cleveland.
The Beatles’ first visit took place in September 1964, when they performed at the venerable Public Hall downtown. That event, held before a crowd of 10,000, caused a disturbance which prompted the city to ban them from Cleveland the next year.
In spite of the ban, the Beatles returned in 1966 to play a concert in Municipal Stadium. A less than capacity crowd was on hand, perhaps due to the outcry from John Lennon’s comments about the group’s level of popularity made shortly before.
The event at the Mansfield/Richland County Publci Library Community Room will begin promptly at 6:00 PM. Teens and adults are welcome, and no signup is required.
