On Thursday, October 12 the Richland County Board of Commissioners held their periodic session. The relatively brief agenda included discussion of the following:

Siren Maintenance

A quote was presented for additional work on one of the county’s sirens. The proposed service and labor cost totaled $183. This expenditure was approved without hesitation.

ARPA Expenditures

Two instances of ARPA expenditures were discussed. The first was for the purchase of a new truck and plow for $62,981. The second was for a salt spreader priced at $6,000. Commissioner Vera took a moment to emphasize the importance of considering how ARPA funds are used, highlighting the county’s healthy Capital fund balance, suggesting that such purchases might be better made from there in the future.

Building Improvements

Discussion ensued about potential renovations to the county’s facilities, especially concerning space currently utilized by the land bank and the hopeful addition of a fourth Common Pleas courtroom. The desire is to create a more inviting environment for the land bank, particularly since the land bank often handles high-profile projects.

Vehicle Disposals and Transfers

The board addressed the disposal of several vehicles, including a 1981 bucket truck, a dump truck, and a 12-year-old Chevy 2500 flatbed. These will either be sold or transferred back to their original departments.

In response to an inquiry about the use of ARPA funds versus the capital fund, Vera explained that while ARPA funds are available and can be used for such purchases, it would be prudent to consider saving those for larger, generational projects in the future.
