Twenty-four Mansfield Senior High School art students have qualified for state judging after regional competition on Saturday in the 47th annual Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition.

Senior High’s entries were judged at Ontario High School, one of 15 regional sites across the state. Approximately 11,500 regional entries were submitted statewide.

Approximately 2,500 regional winners will move on to state judging on Saturday, March 11, at Hilliard Davidson High School. An exhibition of state winners will open on April 23 at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower. “Our regional pieces selected include ceramics, paintings, drawings, collages – pretty much every aspect of the art we study,” said Mindy Duncan, Senior High art teacher.

Senior High regional winners, with some denoted as having multiple pieces selected for state judging, include:

Abou Diomande, Bailey Compton, Breyon Mills, Dallas Smith (2), Diante Melton, Ella Feagin, Eric Rose, Ethan Luedy, Faith Owens (5), Jayden Schepflin (2), Jaylyn Lewis, Jenna Heiser, Khiarah Miller, Lorenzo Brown, Miranda Cline, Olta Toska, Paige Gutai, Payne Smith, Pear Amornvuthikul, Rosy Johnson, Seth Hyland, Sidney Caudill, Supisara Thamjaraswong and Veena Weils (2).

Regional competition was open to all of Ohio’s 1,112 high schools, both public and private, chartered by the Ohio Department of Education. Judges for the state competition are chosen from all over the country and generally are professional artists and college level instructors.
