In an announcement posted on social media, Richland County announced on Monday that sign-up is now available for the county’s new Wireless Emergency Notification System (“WENS”).

The system allows county residents to receive emergency and community alerts on their cell phones, work phones, and home photos. Notifications are also possible via SMS (text message) or by email.

Alerts can include road construction updates, weather alerts and emergencies from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, voting news, and building closures.

This is a free service that is provided by Richland County to its residents. Residents should note that alerts are dependent upon external providers, and that message and data rates may apply. Richland County cannot guarantee that notifications will be received by the intended recipient.

Notifications will originate from 69310 for text messages, [email protected] for emails and 419-774-2001 for voice message.
