All across Richland County the upcoming weekend will see parades, services, and other events commemorating Memorial Day. A partial list follows (this will be updated if we learn of additional events):
Mansfield
Saturday, 9 AM – Placing of Flags, Mansfield Cemetery
Sunday, 1 PM – 51st Avenue of the Flag Ceremony, Mansfield Memorial Park
Monday, 10:30 AM – Mansfield Memorial Day Parade – Route is from five-way intersection, east on PAW to gazebo in the square for service
Monday, 2 PM – Old Soldiers Ground renovation project dedication, Mansfield Cemetery (story here)
Shelby
Monday, 10:30 AM – Memorial Day Parade – Route begins at its normal location on Grand Boulevard and end at Oakland Cemetery. The route will utilize High School Avenue, Park Avenue, and Tucker Avenue instead of its normal route. Reminder: There will be no parking in front of the fire department for emergency reasons.
Village Parade Times and Routes (all on Monday)
- Bellville – 11 AM – Route starts at the American Legion on Bell Street and goes down Main Street to Church Street to the Bellville Cemetery.
- Butler – 9 AM – Route begins at Butler Elementary and proceed toward Memorial Park.
- Lexington – 10 AM – Route tarts on Delaware Avenue to West Main Street to the Lexington Cemetery.
- Plymouth – 10:30 AM – Route starts downtown and proceeds to the Greenlawn Cemetery followed by a program. There will also be a patriotic bike contest for kids up to age 12. Decorated bikes will be judged at 10 a.m. at Veterans Park downtown.
- Shiloh – 8 AM – No parade, service at Mt. Hope Cemetery
