In a Tuesday letter to the Madison School Community, Superintendent Rob Peterson shared news that the increase in COVID infections in the district, as well as the number of absences caused by other illness, has necessitated immediate action.
For that reason, Madison High School and Middle School will be moving to remote learning beginning on Thursday, September 9, and lasting until Wednesday, September 15, after which in-person learning will resume.
This will not necessarily impact athletic and other school events, however each will be subject to change on an individual basis.
The following protocols will be observed, according to Peteron:
- Any student identified as a household close contact must quarantine whether symptomatic or asymptomatic.
- Any student identified as a school close contact must wear a mask at school during the duration of their period of quarantine. If the student is symptomatic, this option is not available, and the student must stay home from school.

In numbers released last Thursday by the Ohio Department of Health, Madison officials reported a total of 32 infections in the district — 20 students and 12 staff. This total tied with Lexington Schools for the large number of positive cases.
