We’re beginning a new series here at 1812Blockhouse, just in time for the beauty of a north central Ohio spring.

It’s called “Take a Hike,” and it is exactly that. With each post, we’ll be featuring a walk or organized hike you can take by yourself, with groups, or with your favorite furry friend. In each case, they will be located within Richland County and will be generally accessible to the public, or easily made available.

Do you have a favorite walk you’d like to see us share with our readers? Just send information to us at: [email protected] and we’ll be happy to do just that.

Today we’re looking at the 1.4 mile loop trail located at Gorman Nature Center.

The Center itself sits on almost 150 acres that contain five miles of trails around ponds, prairies, and streams. It is unique in how close it is to Mansfield and Lexington, creating a bucolic oasis of sorts.

The loop trail involves a 121 feet change in elevation, making it challenging but not daunting for the amateur walker.

Bird watching and wildflower spotting are must-dos here.

Before heading out for this particular challenge, it might be a good idea to access a map for this trail on the AllTrails website. That site includes reviews of the Center, and what to watch out for in terms of both scenery and some challenges. The most recent entry was placed on the site on March 23, making the information quite timely.

The AllTrails site for the Gorman Nature Center Loop Trail can be accessed here.

Send us your news — of an announcement, event,
club news, fundraiser – whatever! It’s easy to do online.
