The Ohio Public Health Advisory System’s latest update was shared on Thursday afternoon, and Richland County was afforded a most unwelcome distinction.

The county is now the only one in Ohio with a “Purple” or Level 4 rating, the most serious given in the system. Four northeastern Ohio counties fell from “Purple” to “Red” this week.

This designation comes despite Richland County failing to meet two of the standard indicators — Emergency Department Visits and Outpatient Visits. Once reaching the “Purple” designation, Ohio counties remain there until there are five or fewer indicators each week for two successive weeks.

The important indicator of new cases per capita did fall over the last seven days, standing now at 1096.13 cases per 100,000 population, a decrease from 1,134.92 last week.

See below for additional information and numbers.

Numbers shared by the Ohio Department of Health on Thursday reveal that a total of 596,178 total cases have been reported since the COVID-19 pandemic began, with a total of 426,526 recoveries. New cases amount to 11,412 individuals, and there are now 7,895 deaths.

In his regular Thursday briefing, Governor Mike DeWine stated that CVS, Walgreens, Absolute Pharmacy, and PharmScrip will be distributing the vaccine to Ohio nursing homes.
